I wish I had told him more how much of an impact he had on my life and career. He taught me to love learning for the sake of learning. I will be forever grateful.
Kim Alcantara

Dear Mr. Murphy, Frank,
We, your Runnymedian community, owe you so much. I wasn’t as lucky to be actually be taught by you, but it always baffled me how you managed to remember every single student’s name, who was in who’s class, who was who’s sibling… In the last 10 years I was lucky to run into you in our shared neighborhood of Retiro, and I continued to be baffled, as you never failed to remember my name, ask about my parents and brothers, or wonder if I still kept in touch with such and such classmates, some 25 years after we graduated. And so, just like the law of conservation of energy, where energy can neither be created nor destroyed – only converted, your energy will remain among all those who were fortunate to have met you. God speed!
Carolina Álvarez-Santos

Thank you Mr. Murphy, Frank, your passion for logical reasoning has left an indelible mark that will live on for generations.
Felipe Álvarez-Santos

you left a mark. will keep rolling with the punches.
Daniela Amico

Mr. Murphy was one the pillars that upheld not only great teaching at runnymede, but also helped us to become better as students and as individuals for our future. You will be sorely missed Frank. May you rest in peace with all greats that once crossed our paths and are no longer with us. Thank you for everything.
Emilio Amico

Back in the early 90s I had the special experience of working alongside Frank, even being allowed to share the teaching of physics with him! I have never worked with a science teacher with such an in depth knowledge, passion for his subject, and ability to reach out to his beloved students. An exceptional teacher! Also, in those times he was the soul of Runnymede, his was the guiding hand on the till, with his wisdom and gentle Irish humour he touched the lives of countless students, teachers, and families.
Rick Armstrong

I’m so very sad to see Mr. Murphy go. I still have engraved in my mind many teachings I learnt from him, even 16 years after my graduation from Runnymede. He is probably the best teacher I have had in all my academic life. He will be very missed and remembered.
Gorka Arrechea

RIP Mr Murphy. So much more than our Physics (and on occasions reluctant substitute Maths) teacher… His life lessons were profound, impactful and unwaveringly true. 20 years after our graduation from Runnymede and I still often remember many of his catch phrases. What an extraordinary man. We will miss you.
Jacobo Arrechea

Thank you for being a constant inspiration and source of knowledge for so many generations of Runnymedians. You won’t ever be forgotten. May you rest in peace and your memory as a valued educator continue to spark joy and inspiration generations to come.
María Arrechea

Mr Murphy was a trully remarkable man and an amazing teacher. For all of us lucky enough to have been taught by him, we will always cherish his empathy, witty remarks and warmness, never failing to give a second chance when deserved. Rest in peace Frank, you will be missed.
Mauricio Arrechea

Always in our hearts. Mr Murphy will be sorely missed.
Asun Arzola

Frank Murphy, a key figure in our Runnymede’s history. His teaching has crossed many borders, in fact here I am writing from my hometown Caracas in Venezuela remembering those days so long ago in Madrid at the house at Arga street where the school used to be. I will never forget Mr. Murphy´s voice, his beard and somehow long hair for those days, and how he managed to teach us some discipline rules in a kind way. Thank you, Mr. Murphy! I am sure you are flying free!
Marisela Ascanio

One of my most inspiring teachers whose life learnings we continue to share today with our children. May his soul rest in peace.
Rania Attar

My deepest condolences to his family and all Runnymedians. A man of great integrity, common sense, and smart humor. A life lesson I always remember he gave one of those hot summer afternoons at 4pm in Arga: If you take a punch in the face and heroically stand for it you’ll have to cope with all the force vector at once. If you roll down to the ground with the punch instead, as in the movies, then you will be able to minimize it and stand up again to fight back.
It was much more than Physics.
May his soul rest in peace.
Tariq Attar

Best headmaster ever.
Federico Bastos

So very sad to hear. My condolences to his family.
Stephen Bauser

An amazing teacher and human being. Inspired and changed so many of our lives. Rest in Peace Mr.Murphy
Vijay Belaramani

Mr. Murphy was much more than a teacher and leader at Runnymede College – he was a mentor and an example to many. I will always remember his charisma and care, and ability to teach through the ‘noise’ and get to the bottom of what the institution was doing: educating young kids to go off into the world and work to make it a better place. RIP Mr. Murphy
Ariel Bengio

Thank you, Mr. Murphy, you have been the most inspirational teacher I ever had. You will be greatly missed but your teachings will live on in us.
Neven Blaskovic

Sad news for my Runnymede College school mates around the world. Our form teacher and close family friend Frank Murphy (forever Mr. Murphy) has suffered a severe brain haemorrage and is on life support only to fulfil his wish to donate his organs. An example to all of us as a teacher and person – integrity, kindness, friendship, eloquence, wit, humor and a sharp mind are just some adjectives that come to mind…. and of course generosity! With all of us, his «little people» and now even in his last living moments with a selfless act. I hope the recipients enjoy a good long life and to Mr. Murphy I lift my glass and toast (I’ll have to get hold of his favourite «proper» Irish whiskey). My eternal gratitude to you. To us you left the best part of you. You made the world a better place (and more understandable) to many little people! Rest in peace Mr. Murphy ❤
Asif Bokhari

My favorite teacher, mentor and person of all times. Gentle, charismatic and wit come to mind. Blessed to have been is pupil from Lower Ⅲ to Ⅵ Form.

Rest in peace dear Mr Murphy! I will miss catching up with you every now and again, but will treasure all those memories that you helped create, the anecdotes, words of wisdom and characteristic sense of humour. Well after we finished school, you have continued to be a mentor for so many of us – thank you for all that you have left us with! ❤
Samina Bokhari

Frank Murphy, what a fine gentleman and superior teacher you were. Lucky is the person who has received your kind, generous, and marathonianly strong heart. Descansa en Paz.

An absolutely amazing man – and one who had a huge impact on my life. We will miss you Mr. Murphy
Kate Cornell

It is hard to describe the subtle yet powerful influence Mr Murphy had on me and my career choices. I definitely struggled with further maths in school and yet he was always a firm believer in my abilities. Later on at Uni, I would sometimes ask him for help with my maths problems and he would take the time to read them over and help me solve them. When I hit the first milestones in my academic career I would always think of Mr Murphy and again, email him with the good news. I will truly miss our email exchanges and having the privilege of discussing physics with him. He will be truly missed.
Lily Correa Magnus

Wow this is so sad to hear. Wonderful man, wonderful and caring teacher. May his soul rest in peace

Mr. Murphy was a rock for all of us! Always in our hearts!
Aliki Dimitriou

Mr. Murphy was the reason I enjoyed Physics and he was my favourite teacher in Runnymede College. I was very surprised when he immediately wrote to me as soon as I became a member of the Old Runnymedians’ site, about twenty-five years after graduation, because I didn’t think that he would remember me after all those years. He not only remembered everything about me and my studies but also my father and many more details I had forgotten. He obviously had a magnificent memory and cared about his

As well as being the soul of Runnymede for so many decades, Mr Murphy was an exceptional pedagogue. Mr Murphy understood each of his students’ proclivities and always made space for them in his classrooms. I personally learnt to love science and think creatively, and patiently, about the possibilities of Physics and Maths. I will always take with me his poise and wit, and his clarity, and will hope to follow his footsteps in my own path as an educator. Mr Murphy will be sorely missed; his legacy at Runnymede, and all of the lives he touched at the school and beyond, is testament to a life well lived. Sending my deepest condolences

Mr Murphy represented the figure of a mentor during my adolsecence putting light when guidance was required, always with a sweet point of irony. I learned humanities during my physics lessons, to never give up when there is a clear life objective, whilst at the same time creating foundational memories when I enjoyed the weekend football league with other ORs. Sad news. Wonderful teacher and character.
Michal Rapid

Awesome teacher, no matter what our individual abilities were, he always pushed us to be our best.
Had classes with him in the early 80s – not sure if he ever changed but at that time he had a thick accent (you could tease him by asking if it was Scottish), was always full of stories and sports references. So many great stories, but two favorites were related to his time in Africa – having to iron his clothes in the AM get rid of any critters that may have crawled in overnight; and hunger relief services arriving and promptly looking for their dinner.
He will be missed and never forgotten.

“Maths is language and Physics is Literature “, beautiful words from a remarkable Man. Mr Murphy is the best thing I remember from my four years at Runnymede. A towering personality he coached me not just in Physics but even in improving my Basketball. Sometime in 1985, I had once had a fight with Marco C. and we ended up breaking a window. Mr Murphy was as cool as possible about it, he just said that the window had to be replaced by us at our cost within 24 hours. We did it and it was business as usual. May God give Peace to his eternal soul.

Rest in peace Frank Murphy. My heartfelt condolences to his family and all who knew him.

He wanted to teach us for the sake of the knowledge, not to pass exams which was really admirable. I remember him teaching us all about quarks and the strong nuclear force when it wasn’t on the syllabus. I wouldn’t have studied Physics if it weren’t for him which completely defined my career path. One day we asked him what he would do if he had one day left to live on Earth and he said he would get up and go teach like he does every day. RIP Mr Murphy!
