Letter From Mr Powell
Welcome to the new Old Runnymedians website!
If you’re reading this, the chances are that you are one of us — an OR — and whether you left Runnymede five years ago or fifty, it’s lovely to see you again.
As we look ahead to the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the school in September 1967, it feels like the perfect moment to rally our community. Over six decades, thousands of Old Runnymedians have passed through the gates in Arga, Turia, Camino Ancho and Salvia and inevitably we’ve lost touch with many along the way. This new website is going to put that right.
First and foremost, think of this site as a muster point for all Old Runnymedians — a place where every OR can register, be counted, and stay connected. Once you’re signed up, we’ll be able to keep you informed about Old Runnymedian news and events, as well as what’s happening at school today.
The School now boasts beautiful purpose-built premises our Founder always dreamt of. In this year alone, two classes (‘75 and ‘15) have celebrated their 50th and 10th anniversary here and we hope many more will avail of the opportunity to do the same.
But this website is much more than a contact list.
The website will continue to be a home for Old Runnymedian photographs — from school days to the many events that have brought us back together over the years.
One section I’ve always loved is the Visitors’ Book. It is a place where you can share a memory or anecdote which will be meaningful only to those who shared it but enormously value nonetheless.
You’ll also find updates on the extraordinary exploits of ORs across the world — from Paralympic glory to international recognition in the arts, and everything in between. We’ve always been a remarkably diverse and talented bunch, and it’s a joy to celebrate that.
And yes — we really are an international community now. You can see that clearly on the interactive map. My ambition is that, over time, this database becomes a secure directory of OR contact details, accessible only to ORs. The dream is simple: that we can find each other, help each other, and reconnect directly — without always needing the school to act as a middleman.
In the same spirit, those of you already offering mentorships or work placements through the school office will be able to continue doing so here, and those looking for opportunities will be able to see what’s available at a glance.
And for those who feel ready to give something back, you’ll also be able to connect with Fundación Runnymede College through the site.
So — whether you’ve stayed close to Runnymede all these years, or you’re returning after a long time away — welcome home.
